Newbery

Ok, so I'm in a club that reads books and decides which one should get the Newbery Medal, and I'd like people to post about books they like so I could read and suggest them. Here's the criteria:
-Has to be published this year
-Has to be written by an American (that's why Harry Potter never won a Newbery)
-Has to be a book for kids ages 14 and under

I just feel like my club's book selection should be a bit broader.

  1. I totally disagree. I think that the criteria is too broad. Picture books have to compete with books like the Hunger Games. Thus little kid books will always lose, so there is no award for younger kid writing. The newbery award is now basically an award for books aimed at 10-13 year olds. The teens have Printz but(as I said) the little kids have nothing.

On another note I would recommend Conspiracy of Kings by Megan Whalen Turner and the Cardturner by Louis Sachar and Cloaked in Red by Vivien Vande Velde

  2. I agree with you, kind of. Maybe your book selection is a lot bigger at Eva, but West Regional's seems a bit small. Then again, nobody is going to choose The Big Fat Cow that Goes Kapow! over, say, The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate. Thanks for posting
